You Are Worthy!

If someone asked you right now how you felt about yourself, what would you say? Would it be strong, beautiful, joyous, accomplished? Or would it be more along the lines of not so great, just getting by, a failure, weak, incapable, falling apart, hopeless?

At some point, we’ve all had those negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves. Let me tell you something: they are a lie.

“Oh, but my boyfriend… or my husband… my parents said it.”

That may be.

It is still a lie.

Regardless of what you’ve done—or what’s been done to you—You Still Have Great Worth!

“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.”    Isaiah 43:4

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8

What is it you believe about yourself? Do you believe you are worthy of love?
Of hope? Healing? To be treated with respect? Honor? Loyalty and devotion? Honesty? What about sacrifice? Do you believe you are worthy of achieving your dreams and having good things in life—like friends and family that care for and support you? Or a safe home and financial provision?

God loves you so much, and He declares you worthy of all of this—and more.

Look at the Israelites. They turned against Him again and again, yet He continued to love them and give them chances to return. And when they did, He blessed them. Honestly, He even blessed them while they were grumbling and complaining!

Then He sacrificed for us. He sent His only Son to die for our sins. Not for the good people (and let’s be real, none of us could ever be wholly good)—but for the broken. The sinners. The hurting.

In His life, Christ ministered to sinners, the sick, the broken, prostitutes and lepers… and yes, also to children and anyone with a heart to listen. His love is not limited. It is not conditional. He loves us all, regardless of where we are, what we’ve done, or what’s been done to us.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”                                     Jeremiah 29:11

I AM MORE

More than a name

More than a title

More than a mother

More than a daughter

More than my past or my future

I am more than what you know

Writer

Dreamer

Adventurer

I am Passion

I am Fire

I am Heart

I am so many unseen things

Love

Joy

Strength

I am so much more than you know

A Song

A Dance

A Laugh

A Smile

I Am More

God has such great plans for you!
You are loved.
There is a hope and a future for you.

I wrote this poem a while back when I realized I was more than the lies I had been told. More than the twisted reality I had come to believe about myself. More than the weak shell of a person I had become when my words were twisted and who I was had been beaten down.

You are more than how you see yourself today.
You are more than what your boyfriend or husband, parents or children, boss or friends—whoever it is—say you are. You are so much more than who they see.

Look deep inside yourself.

What is it that you like? That you love? That you want to be?

Take a moment and edit the words in this poem to fit who you are, and then declare it! Reach for it. Pray for it.

You are chosen, forgiven, loved.
(Romans 8:38–39, Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 2:9)
You are strong, a child of God, meant to be free.
(Philippians 4:13, John 1:12, Galatians 5:1)
You are God’s handiwork.
(Ephesians 2:10)
You have purpose.
(Jeremiah 29:11)

YOU ARE WORTHY.

Pray this with me:

Lord,
Help me see my worth. Teach me to love myself as You love me.
Fill me with hope and give me purpose.
Take away my negative thoughts.
Encourage me and give me strength.
Guard me and protect my heart when others hurt me or try to tear me down.
I am Your daughter (or son). I am loved. I am treasured.
Help me walk in Your promises.
Cover me in Your love and peace.
Amen.

Now I encourage you to:

  • continue to speak these promises over yourself each and every day.
  • Take some time to journal your thoughts.
  • Figure out what lies you need to break free from.
  • Start thinking about who you want to be as you move forward.

When I left my abuser, I was determined to become the woman I knew God had always called me to be. I was determined to become the woman I wanted to be.

So I let go of everything I believed about myself… and one day at a time, I stepped out to become that woman.

And I have to say—she’s pretty amazing.
She’s not perfect, but she is full of joy and peace, and she’s really loving where God has her.

I want this for you.

Until Next Time,
I love y’all!
—Brooke
