Finding Peace in God's Embrace

I Dream of Heaven

(a lullaby written for my daughter)

I close my eyes, I do not worry

I close my eyes, I do not fear

I close my eyes and listen closely to the angels singing near

I close my eyes and dream of Heaven, of the One who created me

I close my eyes, I do not worry

I close my eyes, I do not fear

I close my eyes and closely listen to the Father’s Words so dear

I close my eyes and dream of Jesus, of His saving love for me

I close my eyes and dream of Heaven, peacefully I dream of Him

We All Need Peace

I wrote this lullaby for my daughter when she was two. The night terrors started shortly after she began overnight visits with her Dad. I was desperate. I didn’t know what to do or how to help her. Then one night God gave me this song and it helped. A prayer – a declaration – a song of faith over fear. A song of peace.

I was thinking about this recently, about how often we as adults need that peace. All I wanted for my daughter was peace.

All we sometimes need – what we cry out desperately for, is peace.

I was talking with a friend a little while back. She was sharing some of her journey out of the world of trafficking and into healing. She told me about this well in her mind where she as a child would cast all her pain and all her secrets to be forgotten. But it wasn’t really forgotten, just hidden. As an adult she has had to face those secrets – those traumas.

There have been many times in my own life where I felt desperate, tormented by pain, hopelessness, and fear. The cause has varied from heartache, to abuse, loss, loneliness, and feelings of being helpless. Each of us carries something with us but Christ wants to take it. It is not something we were meant to bear. He wants to take our worry and our fear. He wants us to listen so that we can hear Him when He calls us His beloved son or daughter. He wants to comfort us when we are in pain and our soul is anguished. He wants to give us hope, peace, strength, and to cover us in love. And it is in those lonely desperate moments that I have felt the arms of God surround me, have heard His voice, or saw Him provide what I needed most.

You Are Loved. You Are Treasured.

God wants to comfort and heal you.

Psalms 34: 4-8, 17-18

(4) I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. (5) Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. (6) This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. (7) The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. (8) Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

 (17) The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. (18) The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

What weighs you down right now? Is it fear? Loneliness? Heartache? Pain or Loss? Do you feel trapped? I encourage you to write out your feelings and try to find the cause if you don’t already know.

And now let’s lift this up to God.

Join me in praying this:

Heavenly Father,
I have been hurt—please take away my pain.
I am afraid and I worry for my safety—please protect me.
Take all my worries and fears so that I may rest in You.
Give me comfort and peace that only You can give.
You are my refuge and strength, my safe place in times of trouble.

Lord, I bring before You the things that are weighing on my heart…

[Insert whatever is causing you to lack peace here. Speak it out or write it down—He is listening.]

Help me to release it into Your hands.
Remind me that You are near, that I am not alone, and that You are working even when I can’t see it.
Cover me in Your love, and let Your presence calm every storm within me.

I trust You, and I praise Your holy name.
Amen

Pray this over yourself, your children, anyone who needs it. Pray it and keep praying even if you do not fully believe it yet. Because God will hear your cry. You are His and He loves you.

It is my prayer that God’s peace will wash over each and every person reading this.

Until next time,

Brooke
